Go forest bathing in the largest green space in the City of Fort Myers at the Calusa Nature Center.
Forest bathing is a nature-based wellness practice that includes a guided meditation and series of sensory explorations led by a Certified Forest Bathing Guide. The practice originated in the 1980s in Japan, where it is called shinrin-yoku, and now has decades of research showing it can improve physical and mental health.
The Calusa Nature Center’s shaded, unpaved trails on 105 acres feature pine flatwoods, part of a cypress dome, a canal berm, and other native plants.
In addition to native wildlife, see and hear aviary residents that include eagles, vultures, a hawk and an owl.
The nature center is closed to the public during the forest bathing program, providing a private experience.
Enjoy the center’s indoor animal and natural history exhibits for 30 minutes prior to and after the forest bathing program. (Note: the planetarium is not open on the forest bathing day.)
